It can be used to make steel, which can be used for many military purposes. You can also use Iron to make different types of Alloys. But a few players can’t find this metal anywhere on the planet. Don’t worry, you can look at our guide to find out where Iron is in Dwarf Fortress.
How to Find Iron in Dwarf Fortress
You can’t find or get Iron directly anywhere in the world, which is a shame. In Dwarf Fortress, you can only get Iron from its three types of Ores. Here’s what these three Iron Ores are:
All f the iron ores listed above can be found in the Sedimentary Layers. This is the first layer you’ll find under the ground. But sometimes Hematite can be found in the extrusive layers of igneous rocks. These are made up of layers of Rhyolite, Basalt, Andesite, Dacite, and Obsidian. As soon as you find Iron Ore, you’ll get a message telling you so.
You can also choose “Find Desirable Location” from the menu. You need to change some parameters to do that. Here’s what they are:
- Flux Stone Layer: Yes
- Heavy Metal: Multiple Elevation: Medium
- Drainage: Several or Lots
Even if you change these Parameters, there’s no guarantee you’ll find any iron ore. But you can go through different layers of Sedimentary stones to get to the Iron Ores. Below, you’ll find a list of all the different types of sedimentary stones:
- Rock salt
- Conglomerate \sSandstone
- Shale \sDolomite \sChert \sChalk
Once you have some Iron Ores, you can use the Mealsmith’s Forge to melt them down. If you smelt the Ores at the Forge, you will get four Iron Bars. Then, you can use the Iron Bars to make several Iron weapons.
