But the new Google Pixel Watch also has this feature built in.
What does SOS stand for?
Google is also putting in place different tools to help you in different ways. This is in addition to improving the health and stability of your devices. One of these features is the Emergency SOS button, which you can use on your Android phone or Pixel Watch. When this is turned on, it will call or alert emergency services and tell them where you are. It will also start a phone call. But you can also use Emergency SOS to tell your emergency contacts and even give your Medical ID to first responders.
How to set up Google Pixel Watch Emergency SOS
As Google says, setting up Emergency SOS on your Google Pixel Watch does not set up this feature on your Android phone. This is true even for Google’s Pixel phones, like the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which just came out. Since that’s the case, you’ll need to manually set up Emergency SOS on your Google Pixel Watch. Here’s how:
- Tap the screen or press the side button or crown to wake up your Pixel Watch.
- Swipe down on the watch face to see the Quick Settings panel.
- Tap the button that looks like a cog.
- Scroll down and tap on Safety & Emergency.
- Tap the SOS button.
- Tap the switch next to these options to turn them on:
- To start an Emergency SOS, quickly press the crown five times or more.
- Countdown buzzer
- Go back to the last screen and tap Emergency location service.
- To use Emergency Location Service, tap the switch next to it.
- To leave the Settings app on your Pixel Watch, press the crown.
How to Add Emergency Contacts on Google Pixel Watch
Google and Wear OS make it so that users have to set up Emergency SOS before they can set up emergency contacts. But the good thing is that you don’t have to set all of this up on your Android phone and hope that the information syncs over correctly. Emergency Contacts are people you choose yourself who can also be notified when you use the Emergency SOS feature on your Android phone or Pixel Watch.
- Tap the screen or press the side button or crown to wake up your Pixel Watch.
- Swipe down on the watch face to see the Quick Settings panel.
- Tap the button that looks like a cog.
- Scroll down and tap on Safety & Emergency.
- Tap the SOS button.
- Tap the button that says “Add contact.”
- Tap “Allow” to give the Pixel Watch access to your contacts.
- Choose the person you want to use. If a contact has more than one phone number, you can choose the one you want to use.
- Tap Emergency Services, then tap the name of the person you want to add.
- If you push the crown on your Pixel Watch, your changes will be saved and the Settings app will close.
It’s important to set up emergency contacts and add people to them, because these people will be contacted if you need help. Emergency services will be called automatically, and those on your approved list will also get a text message with the information they need. This includes where you are right now, which will change if you are taken to an emergency room.
