How to Turn Off CarPlay on Your iPhones: Apple CarPlay is a very popular feature, but some people may not want to use it. CarPlay lets you use some of your iPhone’s features through the screen in your car. Some people might prefer to use their car’s infotainment system instead of CarPlay because it has a lot of the same features and they can connect their iPhone to it through Bluetooth.
I think that this is a bad idea because Siri won’t be available. If this is the case, you will be annoyed every time you plug your iPhone into the USB port in your car and CarPlay pops up.
I was also upset not long ago. I would sometimes get a call right before I got in my car. I’d answer the call, get in my car, turn it on, and drive away. Then my call would end for a few seconds until CarPlay started and took over the call.
Here’s how you can turn off CarPlay if it bothers you, or for any other reason.
How to Turn Off CarPlay on Your iPhones
CarPlay can’t be turned off or on directly right now, which is a shame. There are other ways, though. Here, we’ll talk about three options, with Option 3 being the most clear-cut.
Option 1: Turn off CarPlay
You can disconnect your iPhone from your car by going to Settings > General > CarPlay > Your Car > Forget This Car. But this may not be the best solution for you because you may keep getting a message from CarPlay asking if you want to use CarPlay. So the trouble will keep happening.
Option 2: Turn off CarPlay
You can also turn off CarPlay through the settings in your car. Most likely, your car will have a way to turn off CarPlay. Find this setting on your car’s infotainment screen. You might want to read the manual for your car. The steps will be very different depending on the type of car and who made it.
Option 3: Turn off CarPlay
The only sure way to turn off CarPlay is to limit it. We’ll do this with Screen Time. How to do it:
Note: If you have already set up Screen Time, go to step 4.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Screen Time.
- Tap the “Screen Time” button. When a new screen comes up, tap Turn On Screen Time again. Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Tap Restrictions on Content and Privacy.
- Tap Allowed Apps, then enter your Screen Time passcode.
- Look for CarPlay and turn it off.
Then get out of Settings. You won’t be able to use CarPlay again until you remove this block. Follow the same steps as before, but this time turn on CarPlay.
